Roll Forming - 7 Machine Lines
A flood lubricated shaft supporting a highly loaded form roll on a needle roller bearing failed at frequent intervals due to fretting fatigue. Redesigned to allow neat Lofrix to be injected straight into the bearing improved the shaft life from 4,000 cycles to 30,000 cycles. The new shaft life is equal to the form roll life and saves in excess of £40,000 per machine each year in down-time and spares.
Paper Processing Works
A large paper processing works experienced rapid failure of bearings
(shown in the picture by an arrow) bathed in caustic chemicals. Pulp liquor
bypassed bearing seals, dislodging the original high performance grease and
initiating corrosion and aggravated wear. The bearings failed in a matter of
months. When Lofrix® Waterproof Grease was used as a direct pumped replacement,
bearing life was extended to in excess of two years before wear occurred and
there was still no sign of corrosion.
Textile Company
A textile company, sewing bed linen, experienced rapid failure
of its sewing hooks when making elasticated sheets. Despite the use of a high
specification hook (pictured right) excessive heat and wear due to lubricant
failure was found. By adding 1% of Lofrix to the sewing machine oil, hook temperature
is controlled well, the bobbin latch never gets too hot to handle, and hook
life has improved by approximately 100%. With 200 machines in the mill, a saving
of £270 per machine can be made each year.
