Lofrix Car Range test results

Background

Lofrix Associates Ltd is currently engaged in a series of ongoing tests with the University of Huddersfield Automotive Engineering Group (UoH AEG) aimed at exploring the effects of adding Lofrix to vehicle engines and running under various conditions.

We have now received the latest analysis of the testing undertaken by the University of Huddersfield's Automotive Engineering Group on a new 1.5L Ford Focus diesel engine, below you can see the data.

Summary of Testing Undertaken

The Group ran dynamometer tests for us on a new Ford Focus 1.5L diesel engine. Identical tests were undertaken both before and after the addition of Lofrix EcoGel to the lubricating oil in the engine. There were basically two sets of tests:

  1. Tests were run for approximately 4 hours at 2000RPM and 25% constant throttle to determine specific fuel consumption, torque and power, pre and post application of Lofrix. This was to stimulate motorway driving at 60-70mph.
  2. Also a series of stepped parameter tests were run, again pre and post application of Lofrix, which consisted of the following stepped variations of speed and throttle percentage, using computer-controlled changes to speed and throttle.
 Duration Speed Throttle
s RPM %
120 1,500 25
120 1,500 50
120 1,500 75
120 2,000 25
120 2,000 50
120 2,000 75
120 2,500 25
120 2,500 50
120 2,500 75
120 3,000 25
120 3,000 50
120 3,000 75

Conclusions from 4-hour steady state test

  1. Lofrix had a significant positive effect in increasing torque (comparing the 'before' and 'after' mean readings of the data, this was 13.63%). After taking into account the most extreme effect of data variance then this can be confidently stated as around 10%.
  2. Lofrix has a significant positive effect in increasing power (comparing the 'before' and 'after' mean readings of the data, this was 13.52%). After taking into account the most extreme effect of data variance then this can be confidently stated as around 10%.
  3. Lofrix has a significant positive effect in reducing fuel consumption* (comparing the 'before' and 'after' mean readings of the data, this was 4.68%). This was at a constant 25% throttle and 2,500rpm. A reduction in actual fuel consumption would be expected if the power and torque were held constant and the throttle allowed to float-which could be expected to be several points above the specific fuel consumption increase shown in the current list.
  4. Overall efficiency of the engine was seen to increase by around 5% following the addition of Lofrix.
  5. The exhaust temperature was seen to decrease by around 10°C.

Conclusions from stepped parameters test

Here there are some differences in the apparent effect of the addition of Lofrix depending on the engine speed and throttle. As the speed increased and the throttle is reduced the steps show that the positive effect of Lofrix become more pronounced-at high throttle and low speed then the positive effect if Lofrix appears minimal, or undiscernible. This appears to be the case in respect of power, SFC and efficiency. In view of the extended steady state findings then the results at high throttle and low speed were unable to be explained by UoH AEG.

Overall Conclusion and Future Testing

The intention is to undertake a similar test on an older well-used diesel engine in the near future to evaluate the effect of Lofrix on emissions, power, torque, efficiency and SFC on what would be a much more average engine in use, as opposed to a new unused engine-and, importantly, to be able to capture the NO and particulate picture accurately.

This will be the next test in an ongoing series of tests, that will complement the MOT data gathered earlier in the year.

It has to be taken into account that the testing referred to above was undertaken on a unused engine, which without remapping would not be expected to show performance improvements detailed above in attached slides. The next set of testing on a larger used diesel engine around 8/9 years old would be expected to show even better results in terms of all aspects of performance and emissions than those from new engines.
