Lofrix Original - Industrial Sand Processing case study
For energy savings and increased reliability, why wouldn't you use Lofrix Original? A 2% addition of Lofrix Original was made to one gearbox and the power consumption over a 3 week period was recorded. A power saving of some 10% was achieved using Lofrix Original.
Benefits:
- Reduced power consumption
Reduced power consumption by over 5%, lowering energy costs significantly.
- Eliminated input pinion damage
Preventing expensive and disruptive stoppages.
- Lower component wear
Lower wear and cleaner gearbox oil, extending component life and reliability.
Objectives:
The objective was to reduce escalating energy and maintenance costs in brick manufacturing by enhancing gearbox reliability and efficiency. By applying Lofrix friction modifier, the company aimed to minimize wear, extend service intervals, improve energy efficiency, and secure a long-term operational savings without expensive modifications or replacements.
Solutions:
The solution involved adding Lofrix to gearbox oil during rebuilds. This friction-optimizing treatment reduced power consumption, eliminated gear damage, and kept oil cleaner. With minimal cost and simple integration, it delivered substantial long-term savings, increasing reliability and enhanced productivity across all extruder gearboxes in brick manufacturing operations.

Lofrix Windpower - Wind turbine case study
A leading UK wind farm operator applied Lofrix Windpower, a specially formulated friction inhibitor, to the gearbox lubricating oil in five turbines showing early signs of failure. Within just one hour, gearbox operating temperatures dropped by around 6°C, preventing the predicted breakdowns and restoring full operational performance.
Benefits:
- Reduced operating temperature
Lower gearbox temperatures by approximately 6°C, improving performance and preventing overheating.
- Prevented gearbox failures
Eliminated predicted failures, avoiding costly downtime and replacement expenses.
-
Extended oil and component life
Maintained oil quality and viscosity over years of operation, reducing wear and the need for oil changes.
- Enhanced reliability
Kept turbines running efficiently and consistently, even under heavy load and environmental stress.
Objectives:
To reduce the high cost of gearbox failures and maintenance in wind turbines by improving lubrication performance, extending component life, and minimizing unplanned downtime. The operator sought a sustainable, low-cost solution to maintain efficiency and reliability across its wind farm operations.
Solutions:
The solution involved adding Lofrix Windpower directly to the gearbox lubricating oil. This advanced friction-reducing treatment rapidly lowered operating temperatures, stabilized lubricant viscosity, and prevented further wear. Over extended use, oil quality remained high, eliminating the need for replacement and extending gearbox service life.
Following these results, Lofrix Hydraulic was introduced into turbine hydraulic systems to maintain oil stability and seal integrity. Today, Lofrix Windpower is used in over 10% of the UK’s large wind turbines, delivering measurable reliability, longevity, and performance gains.

Lofrix Original - Bearings case study
A major paper mill replaced its standard synthetic 320-second viscosity lubricating oil with a lighter 100-second oil treated with Lofrix friction inhibitor in its drying line cylinder bearings. These bearings operate under high temperatures and speeds, where oil carbonisation can cause damage, reduce efficiency, and introduce abrasive particles into the system.
After treatment, Lofrix eliminated carbon build-up, stabilised oil performance, and kept the system running efficiently for over a decade without bearing replacements.
Benefits:
Extended bearing and oil life
Over 10 years of continuous operation without bearing replacements and with extended oil life.
Reduced maintenance and downtime
Maintenance limited to only a few days a year, enabling near-continuous production.
No oil preheating required
Immediate start-up after stoppages, saving time and energy.
Cleaner lubrication system
Lofrix released and removed carbon deposits, preventing abrasive contamination and maintaining oil integrity.
Increased productivity
Production output increased nearly fourfold through improved reliability and reduced maintenance needs.
Objectives:
To prevent carbonisation in the lubrication system, reduce bearing damage, and extend maintenance intervals in high-temperature drying lines. The paper mill aimed to improve operational reliability and energy efficiency while minimising unplanned downtime and costly component replacements.
Solutions:
The solution involved switching from 320-second to 100-second viscosity oil treated with Lofrix. The friction-inhibiting formulation cleaned carbon deposits from bearings and pipework, stabilised oil performance, and reduced wear. Continuous oil analysis confirmed long-term quality and performance, allowing oil change intervals of up to 12 months.
With Lofrix in use across the plant, maintenance requirements dropped dramatically while production increased nearly fourfold - a lasting transformation in efficiency and reliability.

Lofrix Original - Clay Brick extruder gearbox case study
Energy and environmental costs in the brick making industry are escalating hugely. An opportunity to positively affect maintenance and service costs was considered valuable by one of the, already, most efficient manufacturers. A 500hp motor driven clay extruder gearbox has been in service for several years with rebuilt intervals of approximately 7 years. During the interim the first input pinion gear is subject to replacement at 12-24 month intervals. Start up is helped by and air bag to cushion the otherwise full load onto clay filled screw. Gearbox oil is changed at 18 month intervals.
Solutions:
During the most recent gearbox rebuild, which involved replacing approximately £40,000 worth of components, an addition of Lofrix was made into the new oil fill.
Result:
Compared with average power consumption prior to the rebuild, power consumption was reduced by more than 5%.
When the oil was changed at 18 months, the magnetic plug in the gearbox was found to be free from steel or iron particles.
Both at that time and again at two years the input pinion was found to be completely free of damage, thus avoiding a costly stoppage.
All 3 gearboxes on the extruder been treated resulting in significant financial savings being made in both running and maintenance costs.

Lofrix Original - Testing in the military
A decommissioned M2 Bradley fighting vehicle, returned from service in poor condition and considered suitable only for parts or scrap, was selected for testing. The vehicle had been in service since 1992 and exhibited engine and gearbox deposits causing increased noise and reduced running quality.
Solutions:
Lofrix Original was applied to the Bradley’s engine and gearbox. The treatment worked to expel deposits through the exhaust system and improve overall performance. The vehicle was run continuously for a period of 4 days following treatment.
Result:
Examination after the 4-day run revealed that the engine and gearbox were operating smoothly, with reduced noise and improved running quality. The vehicle was subsequently deemed fit for permanent use.
Other decommissioned armored vehicles treated with Lofrix Original also showed similar improvements, demonstrating the product’s ability to restore performance in heavily worn systems.
